Weekly DAO News #001
a16z DAOs, badgerDAO $120m hack, rossDAO raises 2800 eth, OlympusDAO ponzi or innovation?
Good morning fellow DAOists,
Here’s what you missed in recent DAO news.
The Future of Work is Not Corporate — It’s DAOs and Crypto Networks
In the future, it’s likely that the average person will not work for a company. Instead, people will earn income in non-traditional ways by taking actions such as playing games, learning new skills, creating art, or curating content. This kind of shift in how we work is not unusual or unexpected — the idea that most people would be employed by large corporations would have seemed crazy to someone in the year 1800. Read more here.
BadgerDAO Reveals Details of How It Was Hacked for $120M
The DeFi platform said an application platform that runs on its cloud network was the vector for the attack. Read more here.
RossDAO raised 2836 ETH to help kids of incarcerated parents and to help with clemency for Ross. The Power of DAOs!
Remember the guy that founded Silk Road? Yes, the site where people bought and sold illegal goods (no judgement!). His name is Ross. DAOs have been trying to buy all sorts of things—from copies of the constitution to NBA teams. But can they mobilize to buy a man's freedom?
The PleasrDAO community amassed a treasury of 2,836.637 ETH ($12,279,943) in just a few days. The DAO says its mission is to "free Ross, advance prison reform, and share Ross's work with the world and give everyone a unique opportunity to own a piece of it."
DAO Tweets
Yes, they could be. In the same way that NFTs were the killer app for Ethereum. Perhaps, DAOs open the floodgates for Web3. Many projects like Rabbithole.gg, Unstoppable Domains, and finance.vote serve to onboard more people to Web3.
I’d say there’s some truth behind this. A large part of DAOs is human coordination. We’ve been coordinating for centuries with less tech than we have today. What do you think?
Closing Thought
The traditional way to make money was “work-to-earn,” but the future of income is “x-to-earn” — play to earn, learn to earn, create to learn, and work to earn.
See you next week!
